North Kananaskis Pass
Distance: 17km from trailhead to pass. Elevation gain: 670m. This is an official trail within Lougheed Provincial Park and is signposted at major junctions. Camping (permit required) is only allowed at official sites.
Access: From Hwy 40 at the winter gate, drive Kananaskis Lakes Trail (Hwy) all the way in to the end. Turn left for Interlakes parking lot.
Cross the dam and the flood gate chute. The old fire road swings left into forest. The trail up Mt Indefatigable, on the right, is no longer an official path. Shortly after, the trail splits. Keep right, staying on the road. Despite the occasional view across the lake to Fossil Falls, this is a slow, stony and often sweaty trek. Cross an old rock slide, where portions of Mt Indefatigable have sheared off. In fact, several slides have occurred, and it will likely slide again.

The road now turns away from the lake and descends into Invincible Creek. Cross the bridge and follow the forest foot trail. It crosses above the Upper Kananaskis Falls on a log bridge. A bit further, you may see signs of an old trail leaving to the left. The old Lyautey trail is now permanently closed. Just beyond, a clear stream flowing from a talus slope of Mt Lyautey is a good place to fill water bottles. After skirting the talus slope, the trail heads into open forest, crosses milky Three Isle Creek and, at a sign, reaches Forks campground. Go right and enter the campground.
